Absolutely one of the...ISLAND OF THE BLUE DOLPHINS. Absolutely one of the life-changing books for my young adult brain. (...most of the books I read then were survival stories of one kind or another--I was rather hoping, at age 12, to have a reason to live in a tree or a cave). Maybe that's why I really loved (parts of) <i>Clan of the Cave Bear</i>. Ayla is always surviving in that book, always inventing and making and doing. Yes, the rest of the series is not-all-that-well-done erotica, but there's serious love in me for Ayla-making-a-sling and Ayla-learning-flint-knapping. <br /><br />But. Yes. Library sales.
